Session 1 · 1 Chronicles 1–5
From Adam through Judah, with exile already in the names
- The genealogies begin with Adam, move through Noah and the nations, and set Abraham's family beside the kings of Edom.
- Judah's lines are traced through Hezron, Caleb, and the households that will carry David's story.
- David's sons are named, and Solomon's line is followed through the kings to Jeconiah and the generations after the exile.
- Jabez asks to be kept from harm, and Simeon's families are listed among the settlements of the south.
- Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh are recorded, including their exile by Assyria for unfaithfulness.
Session 2 · 1 Chronicles 6–10
Levi's line to the exile, then Saul's unfaithfulness on Gilboa
- Levi's sons and the priestly line are traced to Jehozadak, who went into exile when the Lord carried Judah away by Nebuchadnezzar.
- The singers Heman, Asaph, and Ethan are set beside the priests, and the cities of the Levites are named.
- Issachar, Benjamin, Naphtali, Manasseh, Ephraim, and Asher are numbered by their mighty men and their families.
- Benjamin is given again in detail, down to Saul, his sons, and the households at Gibeon.
- Saul dies on Gilboa for unfaithfulness, for not seeking the Lord, and for consulting a medium, and the kingdom turns to David.
Session 3 · 1 Chronicles 11–15
Mighty men, a whole heart, and the ark carried as God said
- All Israel anoints David at Hebron, Joab becomes chief because he strikes the Jebusites, and the mighty men and their exploits are named.
- Warriors gather to David at Ziklag and at Hebron, and the text says they come with a whole heart to make him king.
- David brings the ark from Kiriath-jearim on a new cart, Uzzah touches it and dies, and the ark stays with Obed-edom.
- The Philistines are defeated at Baal-perazim and again when David inquires and waits for the sound in the balsam trees.
- The Levites carry the ark as Moses commanded, David dances in linen, and Michal despises him in her heart.
Session 4 · 1 Chronicles 16–20
Thanksgiving, a house for David, and wars that fund a temple
- The ark rests in the tent David pitched, Asaph ministers, and a psalm calls Israel to thank the Lord and remember His covenant.
- David wants to build a house for the ark, and the Lord instead promises to build David a house and a son who will build the temple.
- David prays, asking who he is that God has brought him this far, and blesses the Lord before the people.
- The Lord gives David victory over Philistines, Moab, Zobah, Aram, and Edom, and the spoil is dedicated to the Lord.
- Ammon shames David's envoys, the ensuing war is won, and Philistine giants fall to David's servants rather than to David alone.
Session 5 · 1 Chronicles 21–25
A census, a bought threshing floor, and the courses of worship
- Satan incites a census, Joab objects, judgment falls, and David sees the destroying angel at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
- David buys the site, refuses an offering that costs him nothing, and fire from heaven answers the sacrifice on that floor.
- David prepares stone, iron, bronze, and cedar, and he charges Solomon as a man of peace who will build the house.
- The Levites are numbered and appointed to assist the priests, to sing, to keep the gates, and to give thanks, because the tabernacle will no longer be carried.
- The priests are divided into twenty-four courses, and the musicians under Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun prophesy with lyres, harps, and cymbals.
Session 6 · 1 Chronicles 26–29
Gatekeepers, a written plan, and gifts that were already God's
- Gatekeepers, treasurers, and officers are appointed so that the house, its stores, and its thresholds are watched by name.
- Twelve military divisions, tribal leaders, and stewards of the royal property are listed, while David refuses to count those twenty years old and under.
- David assembles Israel, declares that Solomon must build because David has shed blood, and gives him the plan of the temple from the hand of the Lord.
- Leaders and people give willingly, David confesses that all things come from God, Solomon is anointed again, and David dies full of days.
